“En mi plato de pobre está su cielo de carne”
Blanca Varela
I
Ellos
todas las mañanas
beben angustias de pan
juntan los restos de otros
viven con sus manos de papel
y ojos de cartón
Andan por calles de plástico
con lenguas mendigas
golpean la ciudad.
II
Nina, veo tu cara herida
por el odio que te cubre.
En tus manos
las piedras de cada noche
la vivienda húmeda
y el frío que te abraza.
Muerdes los gritos
en tu almohada de piedra
mientras alguien se apiada
y te entrega pan de ayer.
.......................................................
Despierta
con rabia acumulada
desde hace siglos
se acerca
despliega su poder
frente a los hombres
posee la fuerza
de un huracán
la tierra se rompe
en mil pedazos
crece
ataca
salvajemente
la furia del mundo.
Poems by Ivana Szac (Translation: Irene Marks)
“On my pauper’s dish is their heaven of meat.”
Blanca Varela
I
They
every morning
drink their anguish for bread
collect others’ leftovers
live with their paper hands
and cardboard eyes
Walk through plastic streets
with beggars’ tongues
hit the city
. II
Nina, I see your face wounded
by the hatred that covers you. .
In your hands
the stones of every night
the damp dwelling
and the cold that embraces you .
You bite your screams
in your pillow of stone
while someone takes pity
and gives you yesterday’s bread
.......................................
She wakes up
with rage accumulated
for centuries
she moves closer
displays her power
in the face of men
hers is the strength
of a hurricane
the earth breaks
into a thousand pieces
it grows
savagely
attacks
the fury of the world
